So, yeah. Last night I got into a really huge discussion with some people about "What would happen to the situation in the Alpha Quadrant when the Romulan Empire is wiped out?" I mean, if you think about the fact that this is just 12 years after the Dominion War... and how important DS9 was in maintaining the balance of power in the Alpha Quadrant...

Anyway, the result of this is that we're now going to be creating/writing/beta-ing an amazingly awesome fic about it. Seriously, the degree of thought and planning we are putting into it, into the politics, the people, the fact of at least two different space/time disturbances...I think it would make any DS9 fan very, very, very happy. Haha, I'm resisting the urge to start telling ya'll all the details, but yeah. If we manage to really get it done, the story will be so much better without spoilers.

So yeah. If we have people who would be interested in reading it, I think that would be a big factor in getting it done, for real.

(Note: So far as I know we're going to focus on the television and film canon only. This won't include people/events from the DS9 relaunch books. It would however, include nearly everyone from DS9, and possibly a couple people from TNG and Voyager. We are going to be working very hard to stick to the canon of the original universe, taking the fact that the events implied in the original universe in ST:XI (I.E. the destruction of the Romulan star system, and disappearance of Ambassador Spock) did occur, but we will not be dealing with the resulting AU.)

YOU must help me keep her motivated. I really have to focus on school, but you two can be like, writing buddies. Now that I've commanded both of you to write a story for me... BWAHAHAHAHA...

Also, your Gul Dukat icon made me smile then cry when I realized what scene it came from... How does he manage to make me care so damn much when he is such a crazy bastard? Bah.

The thing about Dukat is, and what makes him such a compelling villain, is that he genuinely -has- warm/affectionate/loving feelings and occasionally does good things for the right reasons. Most villains aren't ever shown to be that complex, or their good actions are always portrayed as entirely self-serving. Yes, Dukat decides to be a bad guy overall, but he had the potential to be a much better person and so that's kinda the tragedy I guess, watching someone with such potential to do a lot of good be bad instead, and yeah.

Also, the fact that he genuinely thinks of Sisko as his friend (because he is well, crazy) is just a hero/villain interaction that I find endlessly adorable. Because of course Sisko is all wtf?! about it.

If I'm remembering correctly, it is when Dukat finally processes the fact that Sisko pretty much hates his guts that Dukat goes completely wacko. When he gets to the point when he is made to face the fact that the people he has such attachment too revile him, he basically cracks.

ALSO, you are totally made of icon win!

Yep, that's pretty much exactly what happens. I mean, he went crazy when Ziyal died but he was coping somewhat when he saves Sisko and looks to him for absolution. And then goes off the deep end entirely when he doesn't get it. It just breaks my heart the way he asks after Odo, Kira, and Quark, because you know, along with Sisko those are his only friends in the universe, except you know, the whole not being his friends thing. :(

I think I'd forgotten how close Kira lets herself get to being wooed by Dukat while Ziyal is on the station. They way she's like, "ooh! lovely dress! oh shit...no!" And man, totally messed up but I think I'm totally crushing on Dukat now ... haha ... I want Dukat/Naprem fic.

Ziyal was Dukat's one chance, when Damar killed her, that was it for Dukat, there was no chance of anything besides insanity after that. Frankly... I always blamed Damar for Jadzia's death.

ANNNND, I shamelessly broke this post in two so I could use both Dukat icons.

I have to admit, I have always sort of crushed on Dukat as well. The simple fact of the matter is that he is a dreamer, and fairly darn charismatic about it. The fact that an ultimate realist like Kira very nearly slipped into his la-la land just goes to show how enchanting it, and he, could be.

I was never very surprised that he managed to successfully woo a Bajoran woman during the occupation. The passionate, hopeful world of Dukat's dreamland is pretty darn appealing, even if one isn't living through a horrible military occupation (which Naprem was).

Of course, one of the reasons Kira is so amazing is because she doesn't get dragged into the dream, even when Ziyal comes into the picture and proves that a sane, intelligent, person that Kira respects, can love Dukat.
